OUR STORY

A LOVE STORY WITH SAND, SEA AND SUN
Filanthi is more than just a building; it’s a testament to family, resilience, and the passage of time. This old stone house has stood for generations, originally built by a family of raisin producers and merchants in the 19th century. Vasilis, my great-grandfather, studied in Paris and later opened a notary office. However, the turbulence of war left its mark. After World War II, the German army nearly destroyed the house, and shortly after, Vasilis passed away, leaving behind 11 children.
While most of the family left Methoni in search of new opportunities, Stamatis, my grandfather, chose to stay. With unwavering determination, he spent 35 years slowly rebuilding the family home, adding to it bit by bit. He also cultivated beautiful, vibrant gardens that breathe life into the property.
The name Filanthi is deeply personal to us—it was my grandmother’s name, which means "friend of the flowers." She had a special connection with nature, always planting something and infusing the house with color and life.
My father, Nikos, also poured his heart into Filanthi. A true friend of the sea, he made sure every guest felt not like a visitor, but part of our family. For him, Filanthi is not just a hotel; it’s his home, and his love for it has shaped every corner of this place.
As the next generation, I now carry the legacy forward. With my background in architecture, I see Filanthi as a project—one that has evolved over the years, and continues to do so. Starting with no budget, I’ve slowly renovated every room, year by year, and while the work is far from over, I find joy in the process. Filanthi is both my home and the spark of my creativity.
My goal is to share the rich history of this place, connect our guests to the essence of old Greece, while offering the modern comforts of today. For me, Filanthi is more than just a hotel; it’s a living story, one I’m honored to be part of.
With love,
Eugenia.

WE BELIEVE IN SUSTAINABILITY
WE PROVIDE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY HOSPITALITY, HELPING SAFEGUARD NATURAL WONDERS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME
Our home is a simple place, designed to offer the essentials for a peaceful and comfortable stay. Here, the focus is on a genuine connection with nature—particularly the sea, which lies just steps away from us, the lush gardens that embrace the property, and the stone walls and wooden ceilings beneath which we rest. The sounds, scents, and temperatures here are distinct and part of what makes this place so special.
We take pride in our commitment to sustainability. Our plants are watered from a well, and we harness the power of solar energy to heat the water our guests use. While we provide air conditioning, it’s often unnecessary in our stone house, even during the warmest days. We aim to be conscious of our resources: towels and bed linens are changed every three days unless differently requested, and we partner with a local sustainable company to wash and fold them.
Our breakfast offerings come from local producers, ensuring that every bite supports the community and reflects the rich flavors of the area. Above all, our staff—dedicated, hardworking people from the local community—help bring our values to life every day.
At Filanthi, we strive to create more than just a place to stay. It’s a place to experience the beauty of simplicity, where every element, from the natural surroundings to the locally sourced products, helps create a sense of belonging. Whether you’re enjoying the tranquility of our gardens or the view of the sea, we invite you to connect with the heart of our home. We believe that in this peaceful space, you’ll not only find comfort, but also a deeper appreciation for the simple joys that life offers.
